About Us
What we do
Our passion is hair, so it's all we do! Through extensive, ongoing education, our stylists stay up to date on the latest styles and techniques to bring you the looks you want! If you're a bride, or a guest looking for your next cut/color stylist- you have come to the right place!
We are conveniently located within walking distance to numerous wedding venues, restaurants, hotels, and convention centers.
Walking into our salon, you will receive a full view of the Cape Fear River. There are 15 large windows, exposed brick walls, and wooden beams that make our salon unbelievably unique. The river generates quite a bit of maritime traffic as well as the horse drawn trolly that goes right down Water Street! We want to bring an ”ambiance” of relaxed elegance to Downtown, Wilmington!
History
Ambiance is one of the only waterfront salons located in Wilmington! We are so fortunate to be in the historic J.W Brooks Wholesale Grocer building. They began construction in 1899 and restored in 1920. The building has a fantastic, front row view of Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and Battleship North Carolina!
Fun fact… did you know we have an original safe from the early 1900’s!? Downtown Wilmington, deep underground, there are miles of secret tunnels called Jacob’s Runs. This safe was primarily used during prohibition to sneak alcohol through those tunnels. The secret door looked like a safe but actually led to Jacob’s Runs!
When we purchased our space, we cracked the safe code hoping to have access to the tunnels or discover! Unfortunately, about 3ft deep- the safe had been welded shut. It is now home to our capes and smocks and makes for a pretty cool story if you love history.
